Location of the Four Villages

These iconic Kentish villages are located some four miles east of Canterbury and comprise Littlebourne, Wickhambreaux, Stodmarsh and Ickham.  Map below. The Little Stour chalk stream links the first three.

Some examples of what we do

WE ARRANGE TALKS on a range of conservation topics relevant to our area. These are given by experts in their fields and are combined with social evenings giving everyone a chance to meet their neighbours, and to discuss local matters of shared interest.

WE ARRANGE VISITS to local places of interest such as farms, historic locations and places of environmental interest. We also undertake tree planting and other practical conservation projects such as the restoration of the telephone box and World War 2 ‘pill box’ in Wickhambreaux.

Emergency flood controls

WE CAMPAIGN ON A RANGE OF ISSUES, both local and district-wide, taking a holistic and empirical approach to protecting  our villages, waterways and countryside.  A current key concern is the state of wastewater management in the villages, which is seriously  impacting  on residents and on the local environment, in particular, the Little Stour chalk stream.

WE SCRUTINISE PLANNING APPLICATIONS, help elicit local views and where appropriate,  submit formal comments through Canterbury City Council’s Planning Portal. Our objective is to try and ensure that poorly considered development proposals that could impact on the existing built and natural environment, do not receive planning approval.

WE LIAISE with local and national conservation groups on environmental issues, and contribute to consultations, such as the Canterbury District Local Plan that affects so much of South Canterbury.
